Consultation on Revision of Statement of Licensing Policy for Pavement Licences

Overview

The Business and Planning Act 2020 established a new regime for the authorisation of placing tables and chairs on the highway. This was in light of the Covid pandemic and aimed to streamline the process to support business recovery. 

We set a policy at the introduction of this new Act and, following changes to the provisions made by the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023, are consulting on the draft revision to this policy. As the new regime has been made permanet, we are also consulting upon a new licence fee, which has been set at cost recovery.
