Chorley Borough Council: Biodiversity Strategy Survey

Closes 10 Oct 2025

Opened 1 Sep 2025

Overview

"Biodiversity" means the diversity of habitats and species in a place. Here in Chorley, we are lucky to have a range of habitats and a diversity of flora and fauna across our borough, from Ancient Woodland, to natural rivers and wetlands, upland peat and semi-natural grassland meadows.

The natural environment provides us with invaluable and essential 'ecosystem services' such as climate resilience, carbon sequestration, natural flood management, clean air and water. Our natural world provides us with essential pollinators and pest control to support food production. To our residents, our green spaces provide natural beauty and place to enjoy, exercise and de-stress, improving our mental and physical wellbeing.

Our collective biodiversity in Chorley has been under significant pressure, and has seen a steep decline over the last few decades. We want to take action to stop biodiversity loss, protect our natural environment and restore our ecosystems, so we can protect the value it provides for our future generations.

Why your views matter

Chorley Borough Council are preparing a "Biodiversity Strategy" that will set out our aims, objectives and actions to protect and improve nature in the borough. We want the strategy to reflect the priorities and concerns of Chorley's residents, and we are seeking your views to steer the preparation of the strategy.

Please take part in this survey so we can better understand you and your relationship with nature in the borough.
