Westway Active Track Community User Survey
Overview
Westway Sports Hub is excited to announce it is welcoming further improvements to enhance the community asset in the form of an Active Track and additional parking. These additions will support and encourage physical activity and social connection in the local area. They are expected to be completed on site by Autumn 2026.
An Active Track is a 700m long, 3m wide surfaced loop which will meander around the existing sports pitches. It will link to existing adjacent paths to provide a high-quality space with emphasis on physical activity, exercise and improved habitat for wildlife. The image below is an example of an Active Track.
This will complement the core facilities opened between 2021 and 2023 which include a changing pavilion and car park, full sized artificial grass pitch, compact athletics track with jump pit, grass football pitches and a play area.
The active track will be a shared space for all; incorporating recycled resin bound surfacing, solar in floor lighting, bins, seating, clear ground markings, signage and landscaping. It is designed for all ages and abilities to encourage running, walking, cycling and wheeling in a safe, open, and green environment.

Why your views matter
We really want Westway Sports Hub to be a vibrant, well used community facility.
To target use of the Sports Hub and Active Track and ensure long term sustainability of the asset, we are carrying out a consultation with residents, local clubs and community organisations to engage about how the Active Track could be used and guide the management and organisational running of the asset.
In tandem with this survey we also have a survey focused on professional facilitators who can sign post and run sessions to benefit the community. If this is you please follow this link https://yoursay.citizenspace.com/spatial-planning-c/westway-active-track-professional-facilitator-surv/.
Any questions or comments about the existing facilites at Westway Sports Hub will need to be directed to Chorley Leisure. Information is available on the website Westway Sports Hub – Chorley Leisure.
The feedback from the consultation will be used to bid for funding to facilitate formal sessions and activities to be run from Westway Hub and Active Track targeting increased physical activity and better health outcomes in the community.
